Guides

Documentation and walkthroughs for setting up championships, seasons, driver avatars, points rules, and rosters on SimStandings.

How to Create a Championship

Setting up a new championship using pre-filled grids or custom drivers.

1

Open the Creation Modal

Sign in with Discord, open your dashboard, and click + Create Championship.

2

Enter Championship Details

Enter your championship name and choose your sim (e.g. F1 25, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Le Mans Ultimate, or iRacing). Selecting a game automatically sets available classes and year options.

3

Select a Grid Preset

Use the Grid dropdown to pick a roster preset:

  • Official grids (F1 2026, 2025, 2024): Automatically fills in official teams, drivers, car numbers, and team colors.
  • Empty Grid: Starts with a blank roster so you can add drivers and teams manually in the editor.

You can edit, add, or remove drivers anytime later in the Roster tab.

4

Choose Scoring & Theme

Select an initial scoring preset (such as standard F1 25-18-15, MotoGP, or custom) and choose a theme color. Click Create Championship to open the editor.

Setting Up a Multi-Class Championship

Configuring separate competing classes with independent standings and podiums.

1

Enable Multi-Class Divisions

You can enable multi-class when creating a championship, or later in the editor under Scoring & Settings:

  • In the creation modal or settings, check the classes that will compete (e.g. Hypercar and LMGT3, or GT3 and GT4).
  • To add a custom class (like Pro, Am, or Cup), type it into the + Add Class input and press Enter.
2

Assign Drivers to Classes

Open the Roster tab in the editor. Each driver card has a class dropdown where you can assign them to their category. Their assigned class badge will appear next to their name in standings and results tables.

3

Entering Race Results

Enter finishing positions in the Results Entry tab. SimStandings calculates points, rankings, and podiums for each class independently. In the public standings and round details modal, viewers can use the class filter buttons to switch between overall standings and individual classes.

Customising Themes, Branding & Identity

Setting championship accent colors, team livery stripes, and driver nationalities.

1

Championship Accent Color

In the editor under Scoring & Settings, select a preset color (Red, Cyan, Yellow, Orange, Purple) or enter any hex code (e.g. #00D2BE or #FF8000). This changes the accent color for banners, active tabs, buttons, and highlights across the championship.

2

Team Livery Colors

In the Roster tab, click the color swatch next to each team to set their color. This color appears as a stripe next to driver numbers and in the constructors standings. Points scored by drivers on the same team automatically combine in the team standings.

3

Driver Nationalities

Enter a 2-letter country code (e.g. GB, US, NL, DE, AU, BR, JP) in the driver's country field. SimStandings renders the matching flag icon next to their name in standings and round results.

4

Driver Avatars & Podium Graphics

In the Roster tab, paste a web image link (such as a Discord avatar, Imgur, or direct picture URL) into a driver's Avatar field. When that driver finishes on the podium, their avatar appears on the broadcast podium graphic.

Points Systems, Drop Rounds & Stewarding Penalties

Configuring points allocations, bonus points, drop weeks, and steward penalties.

1

Points Matrix

In the Scoring & Settings tab, select a preset (F1, MotoGP, IndyCar) or enter custom points for each position from 1st down to 30th+. If your calendar includes sprint races, you can configure a separate sprint points matrix.

2

Bonus Points

Check the options to award bonus points for Fastest Lap or Pole Position. For fastest lap, you can enable Require Top 10 Finish so only drivers finishing inside the top 10 receive the point.

3

Drop Rounds

Set the Drop Rounds count (e.g. 1 or 2) to discard each driver's lowest scores over the season. The standings table automatically strikes through dropped scores and shows the net championship total.

4

Steward Penalties

When entering results, you can apply penalties:

  • Penalty Points: Points subtracted directly from the driver's championship tally, displayed with a -p badge.
  • Time Penalties: Seconds added to a driver's finishing time (e.g. +5s or +10s) to record post-race steward decisions.

Calendar Management & Results Entry

Adding rounds, configuring sprint weekends, and entering race results.

1

Managing the Calendar

In the Calendar tab, add circuits, scheduled dates, and lap counts. Toggle Sprint Weekend for rounds that include a sprint race before the feature race. You can reorder rounds using the up and down arrows.

2

Entering Results

In the Results Entry tab, pick a round and enter finishing positions. For drivers who did not finish, select DNF, DNS, or DSQ. Check FL and Pole for bonus points, then click Save Round Results. Standings update immediately.

Ties in the standings are resolved automatically using countback (most 1st place finishes, then 2nd places, 3rd places, etc.).

Managing Seasons: Adding, Reordering & Deleting

Organise multi-season series, carry over rosters and driver lineups, reorder season buttons, and safely remove completed seasons.

1

How Multi-Season Leagues Work

SimStandings links multiple seasons under a single Championship series (e.g. Season 1, Season 2, 2025, 2026, or Winter Series).

  • Shared Identity: All seasons appear together in the top season navigation bar on both public standings and the championship editor.
  • Independent Standings & Calendars: Each season maintains its own dedicated race calendar, race results, driver and team standings, and points rules. Past champions and historic race records remain safely locked and preserved in their respective seasons.
  • Unique Public URLs: Every season has its own unique, shareable link so drivers and broadcast viewers can jump directly to historical or active seasons.
2

Adding a New Season

To add a new season to an existing championship:

  1. Open your championship in edit mode (/editor/<slug>).
  2. In the top season bar beside your existing season buttons, click the + button.
  3. In the Add Season modal, enter your new season's name (e.g. Season 2, 2026, or Spring Championship).
  4. Choose your Roster Rollover options:
    • Carry Over Teams & Drivers (Recommended): Clones your entire current grid, including driver names, car numbers, assigned teams, and country flags into the new season. This saves you from having to re-type driver entries from scratch.
    • Carry Over Track Calendar: Copies the list of circuits and track names into the new season's calendar with fresh, blank results.
    • Blank Slate: Leave options unchecked if your upcoming season features a completely new grid or different cars.
  5. Click Create Season. SimStandings instantly creates the season and switches you into the new season editor.
Tip: After rolling over your roster, head to the Drivers & Teams tab to make any off-season driver transfers, number updates, or team reassignments without impacting past seasons!
3

Reordering Seasons (Drag & Drop)

You can customize the horizontal sequence of seasons in the top navigation bar at any time:

In edit mode, simply click and drag any season button left or right to reorder. The new sequence saves immediately. Each season button dynamically reflects the custom theme color chosen for that season.

4

Deleting a Season

If a season was created by mistake or is no longer needed:

  1. In the editor, switch to the season you wish to remove.
  2. Open the Settings tab and locate the Season Management options, or click the season options button.
  3. Click Delete Season and confirm the deletion dialog.
Recycle Bin Safety: Deleted seasons are never wiped immediately. They are moved into the Recycle Bin on your dashboard, where they are securely retained for 7 days. If you ever delete a season by accident, you can restore it with a single click from your dashboard!
Note: A championship series must always contain at least one season. You cannot delete the sole remaining season of a championship. To delete the entire series, use the Delete Championship option on your dashboard card.

Driver Avatars & Discord Integration

Elevate your championship with direct web picture links, automated Discord profile avatars, and built-in F1 driver headshots.

1

Where Driver Avatars Appear

Driver profile pictures bring your standings to life across multiple views:

  • Standings Tables: Displayed in circular portraits beside driver names and country flags.
  • Overview Podium Graphics: High-resolution driver cutouts rendered on the championship overview podium card.
  • Streaming Overlays & Cards: Displayed on live broadcast graphics and telemetry cards.
  • Round Classifications: Shown beside each driver's finishing position in race results breakdowns.
2

Method 1: Embedding Direct Web Image Links

You can link any image hosted on the internet:

  1. In the championship editor, go to the Drivers & Teams tab.
  2. In any driver entry card, locate the Avatar Picture input field.
  3. Paste the direct URL to the image (must begin with https:// and end with an image extension such as .png, .jpg, .webp, or .gif).
  4. The circular preview thumbnail immediately renders your image.
Smart URL Detection: If you accidentally paste a web picture link into the Discord ID box, SimStandings will automatically detect the image link and move it into the Avatar Picture field for you!
3

Method 2: Discord Profile Avatars & User ID

Linking driver entries with a Discord User ID (a 17–20 digit numeric snowflake) unlocks powerful features:

  • Automatic Avatar Sync: SimStandings fetches the driver's current Discord avatar. When they update their Discord profile photo, their avatar stays synchronized.
  • Racer Dashboard Enrolment: When the driver signs into SimStandings with Discord, this championship automatically appears in their Championships You're In dashboard tab with their personalized stats!

How to Copy a Discord User ID:

  1. In the Discord desktop or web app, open User Settings (gear icon) → Advanced.
  2. Turn on Developer Mode.
  3. Right-click on any user's profile picture or username in Discord → select Copy User ID.
  4. Paste the 17–20 digit number into the Discord User ID input in the driver entry.

Assigning Yourself via the "My ID" Button:

In the Drivers Roster header toolbar, click Set My Discord ID to save your Discord ID once. Next to your own driver card, simply click the dedicated My ID button. It immediately assigns your Discord ID, auto-loads your avatar, and turns into a green My ID ✓ badge!

Whenever any driver entry has a valid Discord User ID with a detected avatar, the button also confirms connection by turning into a green ID ✓ badge.

4

Method 3: Built-in Formula 1 Driver Face Matching

If your championship includes real-world Formula 1 drivers, you do not need to hunt for pictures online!

When you type an official driver name (e.g. Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Oscar Piastri, George Russell), SimStandings automatically detects the name and pulls the official broadcast portrait cutout.

If you want to override the default F1 headshot with a custom helmet picture or team photo, simply paste your own image URL into the Avatar Picture field.

5

Avatar Precedence & Best Practices

SimStandings resolves avatar display using this precedence order:

  1. Custom Image URL: Any custom URL pasted into the Avatar Picture field always takes top priority.
  2. Discord Profile Avatar: If no custom image is specified, the avatar linked to the Discord User ID is loaded.
  3. F1 Driver Name Match: If neither is set, official F1 portrait matching is checked.
  4. Default Helmet Silhouette: A clean driver silhouette is used if no picture is available.
Best Practice for Direct Links: Use reliable image hosts like Imgur, Postimages, or permanent Discord CDN links. Avoid temporary Discord attachment links (which expire after a few hours) by using the Discord User ID sync method instead.
